Services overview

Home rehabilitation and nursing at home

Nova Health’s core service is home rehabilitation. A registered physiotherapist visits the patient at home to assess and treat people who have difficulty getting around or who have just left hospital. Common cases include stroke, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, recovery after joint replacement or fracture surgery, sarcopenia, and loss of fitness after a long period in bed.

Rehabilitation at home trains the movements the patient needs every day, such as sitting up from bed, walking to the toilet and stepping over a threshold. The therapist also checks the home environment on the spot and deals with fall hazards. When needed, a registered nurse can visit to care for wounds, nasogastric tubes and urinary catheters. Occupational therapists and speech therapists can join the same rehabilitation plan, and one case manager coordinates everything.

Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories are all within the service area, and visits can be arranged at private homes, residential care homes or hospitals. Fees are charged per session: $1,000 for 1 hour and $1,300 for 1.5 hours, with no minimum charge. The assessment process, the training for different conditions and the fee options are described in detail on the home physiotherapy service page.

Function-based · Comparing effectiveness

The functional transfer ladder for fall-prevention training

Most falls happen when the person stands up, turns or steps over a threshold. If training does not resemble these everyday movements, the benefit does not carry over to daily life.

LV.01

Whole-body strength training

For example sit-to-stand: thigh and core strength, the foundation of fall prevention

LV.02

Dynamic balance

Sitting on a gym ball, throwing and catching a ball while standing, tandem stance

LV.03

Functional training

Turning, stepping over obstacles and tai chi: continuous movements close to daily life

★Goal: living independently at home
LV.04

Dual-task training

Walking while talking, or turning while carrying an object. Doing two things at once is closer to real life

No-transfer levelNo progress however long it is practised · the movements have no link to daily life, so they do not transfer
  • Exercise bike✗

Pedalling while seated does not train standing balance

  • Pulling a rope✗

Repetitive arm movements with little relation to fall prevention

  • Kicking a sandbag✗

A single movement with no weight transfer

The task-specificity principle: the closer training is to real movements, the better it carries over to daily life. Real life often involves doing two things at once.

Our approach · Four principles

How our home rehabilitation service works

01

Physiotherapy at the core

A registered physiotherapist leads the rehabilitation plan, and occupational therapy, speech therapy and nursing join smoothly as needed.

02

Function first

The goal is practical ability: standing steadily, walking further and looking after oneself.

03

Thorough medical records

Goal setting, daily records, and monthly and quarterly reports make progress easy to see.

04

Case manager system

The same therapist is responsible from the first assessment through to regular reviews, so the family does not have to explain the situation again each time.

“My mother used to resist exercise. The physiotherapist and the assistant were very patient in guiding her to start some simple exercises, and now she practises on her own. I hope she soon returns to her previous level of activity. Recommended.”

“I have had diabetes for many years and was always afraid of injections. When the doctor asked me to start injection treatment I was very anxious. The nurse was very patient. She taught me how to test my blood sugar and how to inject, and referred me to a family doctor to adjust my diet, so that I do not need injections for now. Thank you very much for the professional guidance.”

“My father has been bedridden for a long time and had a severe pressure sore. The wound kept getting deeper and the whole family was worried. We were lucky to find a specialist nurse. She used professional instruments to remove the dead tissue, helped us order a pressure-relieving mattress and taught us how to turn him. I watched the wound go from deep enough to see bone to gradually shrinking and growing red tissue. We are truly grateful.”

“The nurse helped my mother and me learn nasogastric tube care, and she was very careful throughout. Besides demonstrating the steps, she ran a training session where we practised by hand, and she followed up remotely to make sure we were safe. This professional guidance gave us much more confidence, and we can now look after my mother with peace of mind.”

Five-star review

“The physiotherapist (阿Sir) updates my exercise progress at every session, so I can easily see the results. He phones every week to check that my assistant and I are doing the exercises correctly. It feels like a whole team of coaches is supporting me. The road of stroke rehabilitation no longer feels lost, and I look forward to every session.”

Five-star review

“After my mother left hospital we wanted her to age at home. The nurse comes every week to guide our domestic helper in care techniques. The nicest surprise was finding that there is a rehabilitation equipment rental service. It lets my mother, who was unwilling to move around, complete suitable exercise at home with the help of the equipment. We are very thankful.”

Home rehabilitation and nursing FAQ

NOVA HEALTH・FAQ01 – 05
Which areas of Hong Kong do you cover?

Nova Health’s team provides home visits across Hong Kong, covering Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Our physiotherapists and nursing staff can visit private homes, residential care homes or hospitals, depending on the client’s needs.

An extra travel surcharge may apply in remote areas, such as outlying islands or locations that need a long walk. Please contact us for details.

How do I book a service, and how far ahead should I book?

Phone booking: call our service hotline to register.

We suggest booking 2 to 3 working days before the service, so that we can arrange the most suitable therapist or nurse. In an urgent situation, we will do our best to arrange a visit on the same day or the next day.

Do your staff hold professional qualifications?

Yes. Quality and safety are our first consideration. All Nova Health professionals hold Hong Kong practising qualifications, and our nursing team, including registered nurses and enrolled nurses, is registered with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong.

Our team members have many years of clinical or residential care experience, which allows us to provide professional, safe, medical-grade care. Every staff member also goes through an interview and regular training to maintain service quality.

How are service fees calculated?

Our fees are transparent. They are usually based on the type of service (such as physiotherapy, wound care or occupational therapy) and the length of the session. For a detailed price list or a quotation for a specific case, please contact our customer service team.

What does the first assessment include?

At the first visit, our professional will carry out a full physical and mental health assessment. This includes:

  • Taking a detailed history and reviewing the current physical condition.
  • Testing physical function and balance, or examining wounds.
  • Assessing the safety of the home environment, with suggestions to prevent falls.

Based on the results, we discuss with the family and draw up a personalised rehabilitation or nursing plan that targets the problems found.
